How to Solve Classic Sudoku Puzzles

  1. Start with the most filled row, column, or box — the more numbers already placed, the easier it is to deduce the missing ones.
  2. Use process of elimination (naked singles) — for each empty cell, check which digits are already used in its row, column, and box. If only one digit remains, place it.
  3. Look for hidden singles — within a row, column, or box, if a digit can only go in one cell (even if that cell has other candidates), place it there.
  4. Use pencil marks (candidates) — for medium and hard puzzles, noting candidate digits in each cell makes patterns visible.
  5. Apply naked pairs and triples — when two or three cells in a unit share the same candidates, those digits can be eliminated from other cells in that unit.
  6. For expert-level puzzles, learn X-Wing, Swordfish, and XY-Wing — these advanced patterns help crack the toughest classic Sudoku grids.

Classic Sudoku puzzles use the standard 9x9 grid (and some 6x6) with no extra variant rules. The goal is to fill every row, column, and 3x3 box (or 2x3 box for 6x6) with the digits 1-9 (or 1-6) without repetition. They range from easy to expert difficulty, making them suitable for all skill levels. No math is required — only pure logic and deduction.

What difficulty levels are available in this collection?

This collection includes puzzles at every difficulty level: Easy (great for beginners and children), Medium (requires basic tactics), Hard (needs candidate tracking and pairs/triples), and Expert (demands advanced techniques like X-Wing and Swordfish). Are these puzzles suitable for beginners?

Yes — the easy puzzles in this collection are perfect for beginners. If you are completely new to Sudoku, we recommend starting with the Easy level 9x9 puzzles or our Mini Sudoku (6x6) collection, which uses a smaller grid that's less intimidating. Once you're comfortable with the rules and basic solving techniques, you can progress through medium, hard, and expert levels.

Do these puzzles require guessing?

No — every puzzle in this collection has a unique solution that can be reached through logical deduction alone. Guessing is never required, though some expert-level puzzles may require advanced techniques. If you find yourself guessing, you've missed a logical deduction — review the puzzle for hidden patterns.

Are solutions provided?

Yes — each puzzle includes a "View Answer" button that reveals the complete solved grid. We recommend solving the puzzle on your own first, then using the solution to check your work. For puzzles with video explanations, a YouTube link is provided within the post.
