This puzzle I created for the 10th 24-hour Puzzle Championship. In the year 2009-2010 timeframe, there was a very famous championship named the Oguz Atay Puzzle Contest (OAPC). In this championship, many new puzzle variants were invented. This Smashed Sums puzzle was also part of this championship. Later on, a Sudoku variation called Smashed Sums Sudoku also appeared.
This Smashed Sum puzzle is very easy. You can use this puzzle to understand the rules of this puzzle type.
Rules of the Smashed Sums Puzzle
Fill the grid with digits 1 to 5 so that no digit is repeated in each row or column. Additionally, exactly two squares in each row and column should be blackened. Numbers outside the grid indicate the total of cells between the blackened squares in the corresponding row/column.
