HAMLE (Mini Puzzles Series #23)

HAMLE is a unique logic puzzle that came from international puzzle competitions. The puzzle type appeared at the Oguz Atay Puzzle Contest (OAPC) and the World Puzzle Championship in Antalya, Turkey. It's a classic puzzle that many puzzle lovers know about. This puzzle is interesting because it uses a completely different approach from most other puzzles. Instead of filling in numbers or drawing lines, you move black squares around the grid.

The puzzle got so popular that someone later created Hamle Sudoku, which combines this idea with sudoku rules. This version is being republished after many years because it remains a fun challenge. The puzzle teaches you to think logically about movement and space. Each black square has a number that tells you how many steps to move it. White cells need to stay connected, and black cells cannot touch each other. It's a rewarding puzzle that tests your planning skills.

Rules of the Hamle puzzle

Move every black square in one of the four directions so that the numbers in the black cells indicate the length of their moves. When all moves are done, all white cells should be interconnected, and black cells should not touch each other from the sides.
